Wondering here, quietly
I get that we all need to slow down
Stop and smell the flowers
But what if… everything is needed
A day to slow down, a day to speed up
Maybe balance is not being the same every day
Maybe we go up and down, down and up
Each day one way, each moment a teacher
Different subjects, varying lessons
Caught myself speeding, loudly
Vibrantly moving towards a dream
Turning the page quickly
Excited for what is about to come
And this feels… right and needed
Maybe there is a need for speeding
Maybe I will arrive to my destination
Take a deep breath, look around
And start again, this time slowly, maybe.
Belonging
I belong to longing.
Discovering myself at every turn
Out and open for a while – expanding
Contracting now, remembering
This movement… never stops
I circle around with Life
What once felt senseless, now feels right
I just completed another circle
Another season
Longing has brought me to belonging
“Blessed Longing.”
Tell no one else, only the wise
For the crowd will sneer at one
I wish to praise what is fully alive,
What longs to flame toward death.
When the calm enfolds the love-nights
That created you, where you have created
A feeling from the Unknown steals over you
While the tranquil candle burns.
You remain no longer caught
In the peneumbral gloom
You are stirred and new, you desire
To soar to higher creativity.
No distance makes you ambivalent.
You come on wings, enchanted
In such hunger for light, you
Become the butterfly burnt to nothing.
So long as you have not lived this:
To die is to become new,
You remain a gloomy guest
On the dark earth.
(Goethe)
So long
As I am longing
I am alive
I am Belonging
I hope you soar even higher today.
Joey, I love You
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close — we two — these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
