It Is Possible

“There is no beauty greater than the smile of peace and wisdom glowing on your face.” (Paramahansa Yogananda)

Oh so many worries
Weighting you down
Your relatives’ problems
Your bank account
It is all part of living
So don’t deny the worry
But live with it differently
It is possible to have a concern
And still smile
It is possible to allow
Life to be good
It is possible to be
At peace with contrast
It is possible to know
Joy from inside out
Let your worries be your fuel
Transform them into solutions
Wake up every day knowing
There is always more
There is always more
To dream and to achieve
Because it is possible to be
Smiling with peace
Glowing with wisdom
From within

The Art Of Making Wishes

As a new year starts, it is only natural to start pondering on what we want and wish for this trip around the sun. Yes, resolutions are common practice when an year ends and a new year begins, and some people even feel that resolutions are misused and abused this time of year. Well, true, but stay with me. I argue that making a resolution is a much more important act than we give it credit for.

We wouldn’t be where we are as human beings had we not desired the more, the better, the new. It’s embedded in our collective energy to do so. And there is nothing wrong with it. I believe in simple, homemade and sustainable, but these feelings are a balancing act/ byproduct of the more, the fast and the convenient. There is a reason our society got to where we are, feelings of scarcity and lack of proper higiene led to fast foods and plenty of antibacterial soap. Now we are curving back, turning around a little, finding balance as we search for more sustainable living, bringing back the values of whole/real foods and home cooking, etc. It’s all a journey, it’s all a balancing act, nothing has gone wrong, it’s all just getting better. It’s all just getting better!

On a society level, we are moving towards exciting times, as we collectively make our resolutions as a team and come to realize what we need and want as Earthlings. And on a more personal level… we each have wishes that our hearts softly (or not so softly) whisper to us. I know I have plenty to wish for, and that does not at all mean that I am lacking anything. It’s just… fun! It’s fun to want, it’s fun to dream. It’s just so incredibly exciting to wake up and have something you are striving for, working toward.

This year I want to learn the art of… well, many things: the art of connection; the art of fermentation; the art of movement (maybe this is the year I actually start exercising…); the art of dedication; the art of letting go of control, and the art of discipline.

Learn and cultivate the art of making wishes. It has shaped who we are, and the heart loves to dream. What are your wishes as this new year begins? I hope you have plenty to get out of bed for.

Purple Goodness

Oh, the joys of developing a taste for something new…
Cultured Vegetables (Red Cabbage, Carrots, Ginger, Mint Brine)
I’m falling in love with cultured vegetables, and I am spending a lot of time imagining combinations and fresh flavors. This particular jar turned out truly incredible. A mix of red cabbage, carrots, ginger, and a mint brine. Delicious. All I do is cut up all my vegetables, get a cup or so of the vegetables and blend them with water, add mint and blend again. The taste is fresh, alive! I then pour the brine into the bowl with the vegetables, add the starter, and mix. Next: pack the jars tight, cover, and wait. So simple. So alive. So delicious. So good for my tummy.

Purple Goodness I

It was a choice for me not to add salt. Salt can impair the development of certain probiotic life, and my intention is to have as much life as possible growing and developing. That is not to stay that my next batch won’t have salt. It might. Let’s see how I’m feeling when the moment comes.

Purple Goodness Jars

But really, salt or no salt, cultured vegetables are friends. Helpers. Amigos. And they make me feel so good, assist in digestion, and well, I could go on and on and on. But I won’t. Just trust me. Or don’t, but try it anyway, just because it tastes good, and fresh, and yummy, and oh la la.

Purple Goodness is where it’s at!
